CITB NI make new changes to £1.3m Grant Scheme in a bid to help the industry train.

CITB NI has announced new changes to its Grants Scheme to help increase the number of businesses taking up available funding to provide more training for local employees. The £1.3m scheme offers direct grants to registered employers for support in a wide range of training and qualifications for their employees working in Northern Ireland

The industry is constantly changing and whilst construction has been hit hard by the economic downturn forecasts are predicting a 2% growth in the sector between now and 2021. Both industry and Government changes have meant that CITB NI has also had to make changes to the grant scheme to help invest in the skills of the existing workforce.
Barry Neilson, Chief Executive, CITB NI said, “We need to work with industry at all levels to make sure we support it in the right way to develop skills for its continuing success. Our Grant scheme is widely recognised and valued within the industry and we want to continue to provide financial support for employers of all sizes towards the training and qualification of their workforce. I encourage all employers to ensure that they claim the grants they are entitled to and continue building the skilled workforce the industry needs. In addition to the grant scheme CITB NI will be working with the wider industry and the Department for the Economy to establish a clear strategy for skills and a system of support that helps employers of all sizes."
The five main changes to the scheme are:

  • Short duration grant: £50 per person per day
  • Levy payers can claim grant up to 100% of total levy paid
  • Non Levy Payers can claim grant up to £500
  • New restructured apprentice grant. The new grant will reward employers on an annual basis for retaining an employed apprentice and for the apprentice achieving the required qualifications.
  • Funding from bonus grants has been redirected to support training

The grant application is simple and offers flexibility to claim whilst you train. Full details of the scheme can be found at www.citbni.org.uk/grants
