Heritage Specialist Apprentice Programme in Wood Occupations

In March 2014, CITB NI was awarded further funding of £379,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the first ever Heritage Specialist Apprenticeship Programme in Wood Occupations to be delivered in Northern Ireland for 12 experienced carpenters & joiners with the outcome of the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Heritage Skills (Construction) – Wood Occupations.  The programme includes a dedicated 4 week off-the-job training programme along with 11 months on site training and commenced in September 2014.   Placement providers include Piperhill Construction, JRC Construction, the National Trust and National Museums NI.

Three college lecturers, Kieron Flannery, Belfast Metropolitan College, Alex Boyd, South West College and Raymond Palmer, South Eastern Regional College will assist in the delivery of the off-the-job training element which is being delivered by the Traditional Building Skills Training Company so they can offer the course in their respective colleges.
A team of Heritage Ambassadors/Mentors has been recruited to mentor the trainees and promote the heritage sector in Northern Ireland.  Details of the Ambassadors can be found here.
