Women in Construction Network Northern Ireland

The Women in Construction Network has been running for several years now and is made up of a group of friendly, inspiring and dedicated women working in a wide range of roles (professional, technical, administrative, managerial) in the construction industry. The Network, which is facilitated by CITB NI, runs a number of different events every year which include site visits, seminars and networking opportunities. These events allow the members to develop networks with people outside their organisation, discuss the industry and its challenges in an informal setting, learn about different parts of the industry, experience what happens on a site if they are office-based, and encourage the next generation to consider working in the industry.

20170323_144906.jpgSite visits over the last few years have included the Full Circle Generation Energy from Waste gasification plant, the Translink Milewater Service centre, the Marriott Hotel Belfast, the A8 to Larne, the Connswater Community Greenway, the A2 Shore Road, and the Bangor Waste Water Pumping Station. We have welcomed speakers from amongst the network, talking about their inspiring careers or about current projects they are working on, as well as speakers on topical issues such as making the most of your profile on LinkedIn.

Recently the members of the Women in Construction Network helped to deliver an event to encourage female schoolchildren into construction. The members talked about their job roles and their careers, and there were demonstrations of various trades with an opportunity for the young women to get involved and try out activities such as painting and decorating, tiling, joinery and roofing. 20170926_104945.jpg

The Network also publishes a booklet of case studies of women working in the industry which is used to promote careers in construction to young women. You can find more case studies on our website.

If the network sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in, you can register or find out more by e-mailing: karen.hunter@citbni.org.uk.
