Women in Construction visit new Translink Milewater Service Centre

Members of the Women in Construction Network recently visited Phases 1 and 2 of the new Translink Milewater Service Centre thanks to Project Manager Michelle Alcorn. This service centre has been designed to accommodate the new Belfast Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicles but will also service the existing fleet. Attendees were first taken on a tour of Phase 2 which is currently under construction by Henry Brothers Limited.

The piling methods used due to the site’s location were discussed in some detail during the visit. Participants were also able to hear about measures taken to protect the environment and special considerations which needed to be made in terms of the design of the buses, traffic management and so on. The Phase 2 building will be used to service these vehicles and will also have some open plan office accommodation.

The group then visited Phase 1 which was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Nuala McAllister on the same day. This gave participants an excellent insight into the look and feel of the completed building. The tour was led by Michelle and Ciara Lappin, Doran Consulting who both provided detailed information on various aspects of the construction of both phases.
