Traditional Building Skills Research 2018 Closing date Fri 13th April

Research was carried out in 2009 into the supply and demand of traditional building skills, or those skills required to carry out repair, maintenance, conservation and restoration of pre-1919 buildings.

This research was carried out across the UK and Ireland and proved valuable in developing Skills Action Plans for the heritage sector and the construction industry. Copies of the reports can be found here

CITB NI has secured funding from the Historic Environment Division, Department of Communities to update this research in 2018, for Northern Ireland only. To date we have carried out 17 face-to-face interviews with contractors, stockholders, professionals, training providers, manufacturers / suppliers of traditional building product and other stakeholders.

We are now conducting an online survey of the same groups of people to gather more quantitative data to provide a full picture of current supply and demand for traditional building skills.

As such we would be grateful if you could complete one of the following six surveys depending on the type of organisation you are:

Contractor / Specialist Heritage Contractor / Sole Trader
23 minutes

Professional e.g. Architect, Building Surveyor
14 minutes

Stockholder (Owner of one or more pre-1919 buildings)
21 minutes

Training or Education Provider (College, University, Private Training Provider)
12 minutes

Manufacturer / Supplier of Traditional Building Product

11 minutes

Stakeholder (Organisation Involved in Heritage Sector)
12 minutes

The survey will close on Friday 13th April 2018 at 6pm.

We would be grateful if you could share the survey with anyone else you think might fall into one of the groups above.

If you have any questions about the research please contact Karen Hunter karen.hunter@citbni.org.uk.
