Skillbuild NI 24th March at Southern Regional College

The countdown is on; Southern Regional College will host the Skillbuild NI Finals on 24th March 2017 in the Portadown Campus.  Skillbuild NI, run and governed by CITB NI, is held annually each spring with the top local construction apprentices competing to win coveted titles ranging from brickwork to wall and floor tiling. The winners may then go on to represent Northern Ireland in the Skills Show UK and potentially at WorldSkills.

Welcoming the news the Chief Executive of Southern Regional College, Mr Brian Doran said:
“Southern Regional College is delighted to host this prestigious event in the construction calendar, where the cream of Northern Ireland’s construction trainees and apprentices will compete against each other. This competition not only encourages trainees to improve their own skills, but provides an example of the high quality work being produced in training organisations and colleges across NI. I wish all the competitors every success and look forward to welcoming trainees and apprentices from across Northern Ireland to the College’s Portadown Campus.”
Intercampus competitions have already taken place across the six regional colleges and over 80 finalists have been selected to compete in the Skillbuild NI Finals at the Portadown campus. Under the spotlight will be 11 construction craft areas including brickwork, carpentry, painting and decorating and refrigeration.

Barry Neilson, Chief Executive, CITB NI said, “We are delighted to be working with Southern Regional College for the 2017 Skillbuild NI National Finals. This competition provides the perfect platform to demonstrate the enormous talent we have in the industry, helping to showcase the professionalism of our brightest recruits and industry as a whole. As with all skills competitions, Skillbuild NI is about raising the status and standards of professional and technical education and training. We have a proud record of success at skills competitions not only on a local level but also on a regional, national and world level.  Over the past few years  our construction apprentices have achieved great success on a local, regional and World stage and the best of luck in Skillbuild 2017.”
