Scam Alert

We’ve all heard of scams from the news etc and some of us have either been victims of these or know someone who’s fallen victim to them. It seems there’s always someone out there trying to take advantage of people.
CITB NI has recently been advised that a telephone caller claiming to be from the County Court Office is contacting companies that have had Judgements made against them claiming to be collecting the debt. They are able to do this because once a judgement has been made against a debtor the information is in the public domain.

The normal process is for the County Court to issue an invoice for the amount of the Judgement and fees directly and not to use intermediaries.  At no time is any financial settlement solicited by phone.

CITB NI do at times use a reputable local solicitor to collect debt on our behalf.  Initial contact will be in writing and at no time will a  phone call be made by CITB NI or our representative demanding immediate payment. CITB NI customers are advised not to make payments for outstanding levy to anyone on the basis of an email or phone call alone.  If you are in any doubt about the authenticity of a demand for payment please contact CITB NI’s Levy Dept directly on 028 9082 5466 to confirm the demand and banking details are genuine before making payment.
