Qualifying the Existing Workforce programme successfully delivers almost 1800 free qualifications

CITB NI’s Qualifying the Existing Workforce programme, funded by the Department for the Economy and delivered in partnership with the Joint Council for the Building and Civil Engineering Industry has recently come to an end. The programme provided almost 1800 free NVQ Level 2 qualifications in a range of occupations over the last five years and has been one of CITB NI’s most successful projects to date.

The most popular occupations were plant (various categories) at 1156, bricklaying (211), concrete occupations (various, 123) and wood trades (111). These were delivered by a total of 15 assessment providers across the whole of Northern Ireland with the majority of occupations being achieved in County Tyrone.

Barry Neilson, Chief Executive, CITB NI said, “Through the ‘Qualifying the Existing Workforce Project’ we have helped upskill and qualify those working in the construction industry in Northern Ireland, ensuring we have a better skilled workforce which will help to drive this industry and our economy forward. The project has helped increase productivity for individuals and provided evidence of their skills whilst also addressing the industry’s skills challenge and ensuring a qualified workforce. We are delighted that the programme has been such a success.”
