New Year: New Training Solutions for the local construction industry
The festive season is now over and 2017 has well and truly arrived. The first month of the year offers the opportunity for a fresh start and training is normally high on the agenda. CITB NI are focused on driving investment in skills and training that a growing construction sector requires and offer key initiatives to help the industry train.
Our Mobile Training Unit (MTU) provides training on site to all registered in-scope employers. It is a convenient way of meeting training requirements with minimum disruption to site work. The unit travels across Northern Ireland delivering short duration health and safety courses such as confined spaces, excavations, manual handling and working at heights encouraging the industry to build safely. In the 2016/2017 training year registered in-scope employers can book the Mobile Training Unit Free of charge. A cost of £300/day will be applied to those who are registered but do not pay a levy.
Our unique scaffolding training facility, the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland, is approved to deliver the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) enabling participants to achieve an industry recognised scaffolders card. We have also introduced the Basic Access Systems Erector (BASE) scaffolding training courses for individuals that are not approved scaffolders.
Our VET360 is an innovative new tool that provides a unique and memorable immersive experience which gives the user instant access to construction sites in a workplace environment. Used as a training tool VET360 allows the user to experience of being onsite within a safe training environment. The facility allows the user to see more, save time and stay safe as VET360 is the perfect bridge between theoretical classroom training and the reality of a busy construction site.
We are also launching our second phase of the ‘Leader in Construction’ Programme which is tailored to the construction sector and will assist the industry to meet current and future challenges. It will develop the strategic and leadership behaviours required at a senior level for both small or family run businesses and large multi-nationals and will help build leadership capability within participating companies and individuals.

Training Needs Analysis template which can help companies track training and skill levels.
CITB NI will continue to focus on providing the support and services needed to ensure local businesses have the right skills. Through a mix of Grant funding and Direct Training Interventions CITB NI will help develop the workforce to meet client needs and grow their business.
