Local Construction Success at Annual CIOB Awards

CITB NI hosted another successful Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Lecture and Awards evening at Nutts Corner Training Centre acknowledging local students in their professional exams in 2018.

The lecture was presented by Heron Bros and focused on the exceptional work in completing the £27m Foyle College, which was awarded the overall winner in the Construction Excellence Awards 2018.
Success was the theme of the evening as certificates were awarded to 34 candidates who successfully passed their CIOB examinations last year through QTAS and Training LMS training organisations. Peter Clarke employed by CPD and trained by QTAS was presented with the Best Overall Performance Award for his outstanding results in the CMP programme in 2018 achieving both the highest marks in Ireland and Overseas.

Barry Neilson, Chief Executive CITB NI presented the students with their certificates said,
“Congratulations to everyone who achieved recognition in their professional exams. It takes hard work and commitment to study whilst continuing with the day job and CITB NI are proud to host these awards annually and acknowledge those who have worked incredibly hard to achieve CIOB status. Each and everyone of the award winners have invested in themselves, their companies and the local construction industry and they are each to be commended.
CITB NI are focused on driving investment in skills and training that a growing construction sector requires and to offer key initiatives to help the industry train to ensure the right skills in the right place at the right time.”

The best full time final year Ulster University Student BSc (Hons) Construction Engineering & Management was also awarded which was presented to Mark Kitson.

As part of the ceremony certificates were awarded to those who gained top grades in GCSE Construction and Built Environment in 2018. First place was awarded Craig Francey, Dunclug College, Ballymena, second place, Rebecca Gilbert Rainey Endowed School, Magherafelt and third place Nathan Nelson, Ballymena Academy.

Barry Neilson continued, “We are delighted to also present awards to those young people who have excelled at GCSE in Construction and Built Environment. We congratulate them for undertaking the subject and acknowledge their success.

Construction is a diverse and dynamic industry with opportunity for a range of career roles from project management to working onsite. Today’s youth are essentially the constructors of the future and we need to invest in their training and development also to help the industry grow and develop.”
