Construction Apprenticeships could be the right career move for you

Are you due to receive GCSE/A’Level results, not sure of your next step?

The Northern Ireland Construction Industry needs more apprentices to help sustain the future of the industry. Be a part of driving the economy forward, constructing a huge range of buildings and infrastructure including, houses, hospitals, roads, motorways and large investment projects to name a few and building your own future as well as that of our country.

A construction apprenticeship is a great way to earn while you learn, gain qualifications and receive off the job training in your specific field. There are dozens of construction apprenticeship frameworks available covering a wide variety of trades and occupations and can help with future career development.

There is a lot of information on apprenticeships which can be hard to get through. CITB NI have summarised the information which may be useful to you.

Barry Neilson, Chief Executive, CITB NI said, “Construction apprenticeships are an important part of the career ladder and are beneficial to both the apprentice and the employer. Learning on the job is crucial to skills development whilst gaining the formal qualifications at the same time. The construction industry has skills shortages in specific areas in particularly bricklaying and roofing and CITB NI has been encouraging employers to invest in apprentices to help develop these skills for now and the future. Apprenticeships are the first step on the career ladder as many construction managers and other construction professionals started their careers as apprentices where you go is up to you.   We encourage young people to consider a career in construction and a construction apprenticeship.”
