CITB NI supports the Apprenticeship Recovery Package for Northern Ireland

CITB NI fully supports the Apprenticeship Recovery Package for Northern Ireland launched by the Department for Economy to support local businesses to help the apprenticeship system respond to the impact of COVID-19.

Barry Neilson, CITB NI Chief Executive said, “Apprentices are vital to the construction industry, the impact of COVID -19, skills shortages and an aging workforce are putting the industry at risk.  The Government Apprenticeship Recovery Package gives employers the chance to retain and recruit apprentices and help continue to protect and improve this talent pipeline to sustain the future of construction.

CITB NI’s training grants scheme has a specific emphasis on apprentices. The grant scheme helps encourage the local construction industry to train and upskill and CITB NI registered employers can claim £6,500 for a fully employed apprentice over a 3-year period. In addition, the total payable under the new Apprenticeship Recovery Package can be up to a maximum of £3,700 per apprentice.

We hope that both the Apprenticeship Recovery Package and CITB NI grant funding will help construction employers plan their training, develop their business and play an active role in moulding their future workforce and creating the skills they need to help their business develop and grow.”
