CITB NI commend top construction students at building awards

CITB NI acknowledged the top students who gained the highest grades in GCSE Construction and Built Environment at the annual Chartered Institute of Building Awards held at Nutts Corner.

The GCSE in Construction and the Built Environment has been developed by CCEA  to help students develop knowledge and understanding of the construction industry and help prepare them for further education, training or employment within the industry. First place was awarded to Andrew Hogg from Ballymena Academy, second place, Richard Fleck, Cambridge House Grammar School and third place Jade Bradley, St Killian’s College.

In order to acknowledge their achievements, the students were invited to attend the  annual Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Awards hosted by CITB NI which awarded those professionals who gained CIOB status throughout the year and included a presentation on the new Ulster University Campus Development in Belfast.

On presenting the awards, Barry Neilson, Chief Executive, CITB NI, said, “I would like to extend my congratulations to all the students who have worked incredibly hard to achieve both CIOB status and exceptional results in GCSE in Built Environment.  Construction is not just about bricks and mortar, it is the creation of the built environment and covers all stages of the process from initial design to project completion. The variety of skills required means that there is a wide range of career opportunities available. Training is good for both individuals and businesses within the construction industry. We provide support, guidance and training grants for those who embrace training and want to progress within the industry. We have published a textbook to provide help and guidance to those studying GCSE in Construction and the Built Environment in order to help promote careers in a dynamic industry that has good prospects for individuals to grow and develop.”
