CITB NI

Please see the FAQ's section for specific queries relating to CITB N during COVID-19

CITB NI calculate and issue the annual levy in two instalments, October and February with invoices issued then.  We cannot “suspend” issuing the levy invoice because they have already been issued.

Many employers have already paid the whole year Levy to CITB NI.

The annual levy Return deadline was 28 August 2020.  The Option Return deadlines are 4pm on 6 November 2020 and 4pm on 7 May 2021.

We are doing all we can to support employers during this time and we will work with you to find the best solution for your business. Please read all emails/texts/letters from CITB NI as they will contain important information that may help your business.

 CITB NI are aware of the financial impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the construction industry, however, the levy is a legislative requirement and CITB NI are obliged to collect it.  This means that if you cancel your Direct Debit the levy will remain outstanding on your account until it is paid in full. This may result in an increase in repayments at a later date.

If you are experiencing difficulty with payments please contact CITB NI Levy department to discuss;

CITB NI Grants

CITB NI are continuing to pay all eligible grant claims within ten working days.  Please submit your grant claims within three months of commencement of training or upon registration onto course or apprenticeship scheme, otherwise grant will be declined.  If you have any grant queries or difficulty applying on-line, please email grants@citbni.org.uk

Moving Forward

We are having discussions with our Sponsoring Department (DfE) regarding our obligations under the controlling Legislation and whether there can be any additional support for the industry during these difficult times.  These discussions are very much at the start of the process and there is no indication that we, or the Department will have any power to change our obligations.  We may need to enlist the support of industry federations with this and will keep you informed of any progress we make.

On the 8th July 2020 the Dept for Economy Committee meeting approved the 2020 Levy Order allowing CITB NI to continue to collect the Levy at 0.55% to emoluments.

We are all in this together and CITB NI will work with Industry, the Federations and Government  to support construction employers.
