Top Ten things CITB NI do for the NI construction industry
As an Industry Training Board and Sector Skills Council CITB NI works hard to improve the skills of those employed or intending to be employed within the construction sector. The local industry has been hit hard over recent years but our research highlights that 1,760 jobs are expected to be created every year for the next five years in Northern Ireland, thanks to a 3% growth in the sector.
With that in mind what does CITB NI do for the local construction industry?
-
Engage with construction industry and stakeholder organisations
We directly engage with employers, trade bodies and employee representatives via employer information, drop in, trade shows, business improvement seminars and internal and external committees.
-
Complete training research and product development
We carry out local and UK wide research to understand the training needs of the NI construction industry.
-
Standards and qualifications
We work in partnership to deliver UK wide construction standards and qualifications strategy.
We deliver training through our Mobile Training Unit delivering training on sites causing minimum disruption to production. We offer scaffolding training through our unique facility at Nutts Corner. We provide skills and health and safety training to Undergraduates studying Built Environment degrees.
We make over £1million available in grants to encourage the construction industry to train and qualify the workforce from apprentices through to senior management.
We provide advice through our employment information events and through our interactive web site.
We provide classrooms, meeting rooms, conference facilities with free parking and wifi facilities.
We promote construction as a career option through career events, industry ambassadors, conferences and seminars.
We run, support and govern Skillbuild NI the premier annual skills competition for construction.
Through legislation CITB NI raises a levy from the NI construction industry to contribute to our activities. CITB NI regularly returns over 95% of the value of levy back to the industry in direct and indirect benefits.
We are looking forward to the future with a confident and more capable workforce able to embrace the opportunities arising as our industry regenerates. By encouraging new entrants, attracting those workers who have left the industry to return, and upskilling those currently in the sector, we can help deliver the upcoming projects forecast for Northern Ireland faster and better.
